Monterey Herald: MBARI app gets gamers to help explore the ocean

MBARI has a three-armed project called OceanVision AI that is developing AI to help ocean researchers sort through thousands of terabytes of visual data - photos and video - of the deep sea collected over decades. The press office contacted me to see if I was interested in writing about the story. I chose to focus on the video game arm of the project, which is intended to engage a general but ocean-interested audience to participate in the project.
