UCSC Science Notes: PHOCASing on the Positive

I pitched, reported, and wrote this feature story as my capstone project for my master's degree program. I demonstrated skills in data visualization as well as great cultural sensitivity and awareness in my reporting. I obtained funding for and coordinated my own travel to Seward, Alaska where I conducted 5 independent interviews, observed scientific data collection sessions, and toured the Alaska SeaLife Center's facility. I also conducted 5 interviews with the Santa Cruz-based research team including facility tours and demonstrations, and I interviewed several outside experts including the head of NOAA's ice seal program.
